Giarre is a city on the East Sicilian coast, half way between Catania and Taormina.
Seaside areas of the commune of Giarre are Torre Archirafi, Riposto, Spiaggia Sant Anna, Fondachello, Fiumefreddo (from south to north).
After Riposto the beach type of the coast is changing from a rocky volcanic beach to the pebble beach with the stones, in some areas stones mixed with sand (e.g. Fondachello, Fiumefreddo).
Torre Archirafi and Riposto are the best in this area for snorkeling and diving, Riposto is known among certain social circles for yachting. It also hosts a good fresh sea food and fruit market right next to the port. In all of these seaside villages fresh fish and seafood are available all year round from the market as well as directly from the fishermen.
Giarre is more about a clear deep sea, lemon groves, and fresh seafood than about clubbing. There are quite a few delicious seafood restaurants and trattorias here and there on this vast and picturesque piece of land. However, after midnight those places are likely to get empty even in high season.
For vibrant nightlife, we recommend to take a ride to either Aci Trezza (e.g. Banacher disco club between Aci Castello and Aci Trezza is half-way between Catania and Acireale) or to Giardini Naxos or/and Taormina that offer multiple nightlife options.
Banacher is a bit closer ride than the latter two, while locations in and around Taormina (e.g. Capo dei Greci, Barcelona) are high-end.
