The Thyrrenian coast is a lovely place to spend a seaside vacation. The sea is 2-3 degrees warmer than anywhere else in Sicily all year round, pine-trees and soft green colors dominating the scenery, and of course, there’s crystal-clean sea at the background. Whether you are staying around Milazzo, Patti or Cefalu there will be some add-ons to these marvelous views: a scenery of the Eolian islands visible from all along the area near Milazzo, beautiful Nebrodi mountains from Tindari and the Madonie mountains with the views of the medieval town in Cefalu.

The old town of Cefalu
The beach is pleasant, the food is delicious and the atmosphere is just very Italian! You may need nothing else but the beach. However, if one day you want to do something different, here are our suggestions for a few exciting day-trips:
The Eolian Islands
– Visit the Eolian Islands, e.g.Panarea and Stromboli for one day, Lipari and Volcano for the one.
Tip: in August direct ferry service also from Cefalu
The Nebrodi Mountains
– Visit the Nebrodi Mountains
Tip: Montalbano Elicona and the nearby I Megaliti Agrimusco are pretty much off the beaten track, and makes up an enjoyable trip
The Madonie Mountains
– Visit the Madonie Mountains and the local town like Castelbuono
Tip: Try Palazzaccio and/or Nangalarruni restaurants for a real foodie experience
Palermo
– Visit Palermo
Tip: Palermo is full of treasures for a curious traveler. One day will never be enough, so leave early to see as much as you can!
Randazzo
– Make your way through the Nebrodi Mountains to the volcano Etna and explore Randazzo at Etna north!
Tip: Make sure your navigation works well, as part of the road is tricky without a good GPS
Tindari
– Visit Tindari with its Greek theater and the sanctuary of Black Madonna, and relax at the wonderful beaches of Marinello below the Tindari cliff.
Tip: Enjoy seafood in the restaurants at the crystal clean beaches of Oliveri, or Pane e Vino for the outstanding local farm house food and Sicilian hospitality!
You want more, and consider other day trips in Sicily? From Cefalu, you may also decide to go more west and reach places like Selinunte, Lo Zingaro via E90, or take A19 to reach Enna. From Oliveri and Milazzo Taormina and the neighboring Savoca, Forza d’Agro where the Godfather was filmed, are relatively close via A19. Capo d’Orlando is mid-way between Milazzo and Cefalu, so you could plan both with an extra 30 min or so for the road.
